Hi Danny!

who/what inspires you in your balloon creations?
Oh wow...well, everyone inspires me. Have you ever been to a balloon jam before? I love sitting with the newbies. I learn SO much from them! I see things in ways I never thought of before. I love watching the greats twist as well... Fabrizio, Patrick Van De Ven, Ken Stillman, Shirley Ray...just to name a few!

What inspires me? Everything! I see things in clouds and think...wow...I can twist that! I then go home, pull out my balloon bag and make something I saw in the clouds. I was shopping at Barnes and Noble one day and found a fun book called "I Can Draw Cartoons" in their discount section. It has some fun characters in it. It has a picture of a vampire that became my inspiration for one creationhttp://www.balloonhq.com/photos ... catmapid=0

I have a camera in my cell phone. If I see something now that I really like I snap a picture of it! Technology is wonderful isn't it?

who do you admire in the balloon industry?

are you coming over to the Millenium Jam in Belgium this year?

I would LOVE to...I'm waiting to hear back from a large event that might happen shortly after Millenium Jam. That way I can coordinate my flights. Also I don't want to lose this event, it's big, it's fun and it's far away.....

If you had to recommend one must have balloon DVD or book (that not is yours!) what would it be?

Wow...that is a difficult question! I can tell you that when I really got started in multiple balloon twisting the one series that really grew me was Balloongineering by the Sorrels. I am so lucky that I found their videos first. They give you the tools to become creative, at least in my opinion.

Last one! On another thread here we are discussing our set ups. What is your set up to go balloon modelling? What bag? What tools? What balloons? Anything you find incredibly useful that is non balloony?

I'm attaching pictures of one of my balloon set ups. This is my BIG Kahuna...for major Jams. It is a soft sided insulated cooler that holds up to 50 cans of soda/beer. I made the pockets. No...they are NOT for sale, but I include it for you to see what you can do or have made. The pockets are made from black stretchy mesh. I tried other colors but you can see through the black better...go figure! I also have a link here for you to see other peoples set-ups. http://www.balloonhq.com/column/pbunnell/aug07/ I have several bags I use that all vary in size, but they all have my pockets on them. I find the mesh pockets one of the most valuable things I use to keep me organized. I feel being organized is one of the reasons I can twist bigger things because I'm not searching for product.

Other non balloony things I use: Glue dots, markers, and a very small table that I set my balloon bag on so I'm not bending over as much. I also have a balloon stencil that I use when I really want my artwork to be perfect. I don't typically use it at events. It's for sale on my website or you get one free with the purchase of a trio...

Thank you for reading my "daft answers"  ;)

Patricia, I never knew that you were sponsored by Sempertex. You learn something new everyday, so I better officially welcome you over to the dark side    As you say what difference does it make what brand of balloon we choose to use to create our art.

LOL..."dark side"? Naw...I think it's the bright side! Of course over here it's called Betallatex. It's a lot easier to say Sempertex though... ;)

Graham,

All your entries seem to be hats... :?:  :?:  :?:

I interpreted the point of the competition to be that you had to make a body so that you could still use Patricia's Twisted Critter head designs but so that they were 'balloonimals' and not hats.

Martin.

Martin, I've moved all the entries over onto the other thread.
I thought we had to design a body etc to go with the hats & keeping the design of the hat????????

Perhaps I have this wrong?

This is the email Patricia sent;
I would love to have a contest on your forum. It wouldn't be a complicated one. It was inspired by Martin. I would like to see how many people have actually created bodies for the heads I use on my hats. For each person that posts a picture of their creation, their name would go into a drawing. At the end of a specified date we could draw a name. I would send that person a DVD of their choice.
& after re-reading I think it could be interpreted either way so the only stipulation is that we must be able to see the original design of a hat from one of Patricia's DVD's or from her portfolio page.
We better decide the rules :geek:  although as long as you post a design your still in with a chance of winning as all that enter will go into a hat with the winner being pulled out so it's just a fun competition with a little luck at the end to win.

25, How do you keep the enthusiasm going & what still excites you about our great world of latex?

I think Creativity is one of the things that keeps me excited. Just when I think there is nothing else that people can do with balloons I find I'm wrong!

26, What inspires or is your thought process in coming up with a new design?

Everything inspires me. I see things in clouds and thing...yeah...I can twist that! I go home and viola, I make that thing I just saw in the clouds! I was browsing at a bookstore and found a childrens book called "I Can Draw Cartoons" in the discount section. I found some wonderful things in it that I thought I could twist. My Vampire is one of them. See photo on this link: http://www.balloonhq.com/photos/db/comp ... catmapid=0
This vampire was inspired by a picture in that book.  I love sitting with newbies at balloon jams. I see things from their perspective I never noticed before! It also helps me understand how to become a better teacher.

One of the greatest invention is having a camera in my cell phone. I snap pictures of things I see that I think would be fun to twist. It's also cheaper than buying every book I see because there is one or two pictures I want to try to twist.

27, Who would you like to work with dead or alive?

David Grist. I miss him and enjoyed what little time I got to spend with him. He was such an inspiration in so many ways.

28, What makes you laugh?

Children make me laugh. I love watching them learn and seeing their excitement from discovery. I thoroughly enjoy watching my 10 month old grandson.

Hi Graham,

Yes, I produce my own DVD's. It came about because I have so many idea's that I want to share with the balloon community. I had no idea what other people would think about them, or if they would like them at all. I was a bit nervous when I started. I have been pleasantly surprised!

I have also produced DVDs for others. Ken Stillman, Mark Reid, and Carol Turman (the later two are both well known in the face painting industry).

Believe it or not it was more frightening for me to make DVDs for others than myself.

Out takes... I had plenty I could have used, but didn't. There are a few bloopers that I just left in.

Do you want me to include out takes?
