Hey All

I only just started twist about 4 weeks ago now in the pub with Tomo who recently joined, come to think about it, it might have been around 5 or 6 weeks ago. Either way I'm a complete beginner but like to think I've moved a little way on from the "basic 9" They do go down really well though so not knocking them! and I use them all the time.

I've discovered a few things about the hobby (as that what is for me!)

It's amazing what you can create with balloons, I've been looking at your pictures and they are outstanding

It's addictive, very addictive

It's expensive, see another design, need the right balloons :) Buying the CD's as well

People love it! especially if you just crack them out in a busy bar full of students.

It's frustrating when they keep bursting (black balloons anyone?) I will make Daffy one day I swear it! might try another brand.

Anyway here's a link to some balloons I've made, none are my own designs as I'm way off getting to that stage.

I have a load I want to learn, and lots and lots of questions to ask as I don't really know any other twisters!

Things like

How quick is the learning curve? I don't expect it to be easy (I do magic and I've spent months learning a sleight never mind performing the effect) but when do you get to able to build these things relatively quickly?

If you build the things for sale what can you reasonably expect to ask for them? I've had a number of people say how much are they and I've quoted £5 or £4 Is that too cheap? expensive?

Do black balloons always burst the easiest? :)

What are the essential accessories to have, like which pump is best, cutters? etc? there seems so much out there.

Where can you buy resources for learning, I'm happy with CDs and written instructions?

So many questions, anyway I live in Manchester, Salford Quays, Always happy to meet new folks and I love the social side of all this.

I'm particually interested in making hats or learning to make them and would prefer 260's for that. I soon need to place an order for some 160s and 360s (I use sempertex)

That's me! I look forward to seeing you around the boards!

Rob, I love your enthusiasm  :D  I still have mine after all these years as well, sometimes it just never goes away.

Had a look at your pictures and for only just started twisting they are excellent, you seem to have the bug. Welcome to the forum.

Black is the hardest colour to manufacture due to pigment affecting the stability of the latex in the balloon. The more colour pigment you put in the weaker the balloon will be so it's always trying to get a happy medium over colour and popability.

WOW... I could just "hear" the excitement in your voice as I read your intro!  Welcome to the forum.  You have come to the right place to increase your balloon bending knowledge!!  There's a whole thread of instructions from pretty basic to more complicated.  As for DVD's & such, there are some VERY talented twisters on this forum that have TONS of PDF's out there - Thelma & Bonnie to name 2!  And if you see something you like but can't find instructions, just ask about it!  People around here are so nice & most always willing to share where they learned & how you can get those instructions too.

Cheers Guys,

You're right, I love twisting! and long may it continue, I still can't see a model and recreate it but I'm improving every day. And I do give it a go every day! Soon I'll move onto some of the more complicated "basics" such as marraige twist and tuplic twists etc. I can't get them centralised at the moment, they always end up off centre. Any obvious tips for this one?

Had a weekend of fun at a Summer type BBQ where lots of balloons were made, people were very impressed.

Catch you around!

Hi Agecroft, and welcome to the forum!

Wowza ~ I just saw your pictures...you've only just started twisting about 4 weeks ago? As far as a learning curve goes, I'd say you're way ahead; you are definately a natural at this.
You've come to the right place, it's a great place to play, share and learn. I loved reading about you and hearing how excited you are about this wonderful world of balloons. I look forward to seeing more of your work and watching you grow  :)

Happy twisting!
Have a happy day <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=\":-)\" title=\"Smile\" />

Hi there!  You're doing pretty well already!

Thelma's CDs and Twistina's are great ones to get your teeth into something more complicated.
